Women leaders from across the city gathered on March 6, 2026, at the InterContinental Hotel for the Junior League of New Orleans (JLNO) Women’s Leadership Summit presented by Ochsner Baptist. Reflecting the league’s commitment to community impact, collaboration, and professional development, the event brought together nonprofit leaders, professionals, and students for a full day of learning, focusing on Women’s Empowerment and Leadership throughout New Orleans.

“Junior League is a Women’s Organization all focused around empowering women,” said Michelle Clarke Payne, the President of Junior League of New Orleans.

The Women’s Leadership Summit featured guest speakers, local vendors, and networking opportunities. Panel discussions highlighted the value women bring to leadership, helping connect members of JLNO to the community and encouraging attendees to join the league. Participants heard from Lauren LeBlanc Haydel, the Founder and Owner of Fleurty Girl, a New Orleans Based Boutique, and Ti Martin, the Co-Proprietor of the Commander’s Place Restaurant in New Orleans. Both shared personal stories of success and challenges throughout their journeys.

“Don’t let fear stop you from being you,” Martin said.

During breakout sessions, the event buzzed with conversations as attendees visited vendor tables and participated in fun games like networking bingo. The vendors consisted of Women-Owned Small Businesses, offering everything from jewelry, clothing, artwork, and community involvement information. The vendor marketplace provided an opportunity to support local business owners while also learning about their impact within the community.

“When supporting these small businesses, we want to show that we have a very diverse group of products and owners who are representing their brands,” said Lovie Rodgers, PharmD, MPH, who serves as the Director of the Board of JLNO’s Ways and Means Council.

The overall diversity of the summit was evident as women from various professions, industries, and backgrounds connected over shared experiences about Womanhood. While the summit focused on leadership development, it also reflected the mission of JLNO, creating a space for encouragement and collaboration amongst women devoted to serving the community.

“This is the perfect opportunity for us to meet different women doing different thing; to see how we can change what we are already doing,” said Erica Bindom Lathan, a Member of Junior League of New Orleans.

Beyond the summit, The League leadership said it will continue to uphold a significant role within the local community through its volunteer efforts and community partnerships. One of the leagues largest Outreach Initiatives is the JLNO Diaper Bank, which helps collect diapers, period products, or adult incontinence for families in need. The league also maintains a longstanding partnership with the Covenant House of New Orleans, supporting young people experiencing homelessness through volunteer service and community outreach.

“I want to utilize my experience,” said Carla Cohran, a summit attendee, from Baton Rouge, LA. “I do want to satisfy that community engagement piece,” she added.

Attendees said, they took away meaningful advice and new connections to apply to their professions and their Community Development Project. For some, the summit provided valuable insight and inspiration to continue growing as leaders and making a positive impact in New Orleans and beyond.

“One of the things that the speaker said that resonated with me the most was, if you are ever doing something that’s changing you, that means you need to make a change,” Bindom Lathan said.
