The Amistad Research Center (ARC), in partnership with the River Road African American Museum (RRAAM), is set to make history with a remarkable fundraising event, Legends & Legacies: Black History Auction, on Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM at Rosy’s Jazz Hall, 500 Valence Street, New Orleans, LA 70115.Billed as a Once-in-a-Lifetime Celebration, the event offers guests the rare opportunity to own a piece of history while helping preserve the stories of Black America for future generations.

Celebrating Preservation and Legacy
The evening will spotlight two institutions devoted to safeguarding the rich tapestry of American History—ARC and RRAAM. Guests will have the chance to bid on rare memorabilia representing some of the most influential figures in sports, music, and Civil Rights, including Thurgood Marshall, Shirley Chisholm, Muhammad Ali, Louis Armstrong, Nina Simone, and Josephine Baker.

“This auction connects the past with the future. Each item showcases the brilliance of American Icons who shaped our culture, and every bid helps preserve their legacies for generations to come,” said Kathe Hambrick, Executive Director of the Amistad Research Center.

A Collector’s Dream, A Cultural Gift
The featured items come from the Los Angeles H2H Collection of Harold Hambrick, Jr., a lifelong advocate for Black Cultural Preservation. Over more than four decades, Mr. Hambrick assembled an extraordinary archive of art, ephemera, photographs, and memorabilia celebrating the achievements of African American Leaders and Legends.

Honoring Black Excellence
In addition to the auction, Amistad and RRAAM will pay tribute to two trailblazers who have long championed Black arts and culture through their professional and philanthropic work:

Ro Brown, Louisiana Sports Hall of Famer and beloved journalist.

Tommye Myrick, acclaimed actor, producer, talent agent, and director.

Their recognition underscores the evening’s theme, celebrating those who have uplifted and documented the African American Experience.
