Louisiana Voters will soon have an opportunity to cast their ballots ahead of the June 27th Election as Early Voting begins June 12th and continues through June 20th. Early Voting will be available from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day, excluding Sunday, June 14th, and Friday, June 19th, in Observance of Juneteenth. Election Day is Saturday, June 27th.
Election officials and civic organizations across the state are encouraging residents to participate, reminding voters that local, state, and federal elections often have a direct impact on their daily lives.
Why Voting Matters
Voting remains one of the most important ways citizens can participate in Democracy. Through the ballot box, voters help determine who will represent them in government and make decisions on issues such as public safety, education, healthcare, infrastructure, taxes, and economic development.
Civic Engagement Experts note that elections are often decided by small margins, making every vote significant. Participation in elections ensures that elected officials are accountable to the communities they serve and that residents have a voice in shaping the future of their neighborhoods and cities.
Early Voting also provides flexibility for residents who may be working, traveling, or unable to vote on Election Day. Louisiana allows any registered voter to cast a ballot during the Early Voting Period without providing a reason.
What Is on the Ballot in Orleans Parish?
For many voters in Orleans Parish, the June 27th Election will feature runoff races resulting from Louisiana’s new Party Primary Election System adopted by the Legislature. Depending on party affiliation and voting district, voters may see runoff contests for federal offices, including the U.S. Senate, as well as municipal races and local propositions.
Election officials encourage voters to review their personalized sample ballots before heading to the polls. Sample ballots are available through the Louisiana Secretary of State’s voter portal and other voter information resources.
Preparing to Vote
Voters should bring an acceptable form of identification, such as a Louisiana Driver’s License, Louisiana Special ID Card, LA Wallet Digital Driver’s License, or another recognized photo identification containing their name and signature. Polls on Election Day will be open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m.
Residents who plan to vote absentee must request their ballot by June 23rd, and completed absentee ballots must be received by June 26th.
As Louisiana prepares for another election cycle, officials hope voters will take advantage of Early Voting and make their voices heard. Whether casting a ballot early or on Election Day, participation remains a cornerstone of representative government and community engagement.
