Officials with the Regional Transit Authority Board of Commissioners on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, announced the resignation of Board Chair Mark Raymond.

According to the RTA, Raymond joined the board in 2022 when former Chair Flozell Daniels stepped down after 11 years.

Raymond, a Disability Advocate is the Founder of the Spilt-Second Foundation that is committed to breaking barriers for people with disabilities.

In May, he and other City of New Orleans officials introduced a plan to make streetcar stops more wheelchair accessible.

As a result of the plan, over $5 million was given toward the effort of transforming the streetcar stops.

Upon Raymond’s resignation, the RTA Board of Commissioners released a statement.

“The Regional Transit Authority is appreciative of the service of our Board Chair. Mark has been a dedicated advocate for those who are differently abled and has been instrumental in raising the profile of services offered due to his shared experience as a member of the disabled community. Our recent awarding of a $5.5 million grant from the Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) All Stations Accessibility Program (ASAP) Program to enhance accessibility for passengers with disabilities on the St. Charles Streetcar Line was one of Mark’s persistent efforts to improve ADA Mobility. He also was an invaluable thought partner on our recently launched Accessibility Study. We thank Mark for his contributions, insight, support, and experience during his tenure and we wish him the very best on his future endeavors.”
