Satchmo Festival Celebrates New Orleans Culture with the Treme’ Million Dollar Baby Dolls

The spirit of New Orleans came alive at the Satchmo Festival as the Treme’ Million Dollar Baby Dolls and the Extraordinaires celebrated the city’s rich African American Cultural Heritage through music, dance, and tradition. The festivities included a vibrant jazz parade, an energetic performance with Kid Merv, interviews with WWOZ’s Sally Young, and a special photo session with Christina Beau and Yolanda White.

A highlight of the celebration was the participation of Special Guest Parade Rider Charmaine Neville, the Internationally Acclaimed Vocalist and Entertainer who has also served as a Mardi Gras Indian Queen and Baby Doll. Her presence reflected the deep cultural connections among New Orleans’ Black Masking Indians, Baby Dolls, and Social Aid and Pleasure Clubs.

The Extraordinaires are women who have proudly participated in the Black Masking Indian Tradition and Second Line Culture while serving as accomplished professionals, entrepreneurs, homeowners, and community leaders. Their commitment to preserving New Orleans’ unique cultural traditions demonstrates that these customs continue to thrive through the leadership and dedication of women who inspire future generations.

Together, the parade, performances, and interviews celebrated the enduring Legacy of the Treme’ Million Dollar Baby Dolls and the women who continue to keep the Traditions of New Orleans vibrant, visible, and alive.
