On Sunday July 21, 2024, U.S. Congressman Troy A. Carter (D- New Orleans) responded to the news of President Joe Biden’s decision not to seek re-election. Congressman Carter released the following statement:

“President Joe Biden’s legacy stands as a testament to his unparalleled commitment to our nation. As a Senator, Joe Biden was a steadfast advocate for civil rights, voting rights, and the rule of law. His dedication to these principles was unwavering,” said Congressman Troy Carter.

“As President, Joe Biden leveraged his deep institutional knowledge and strong congressional relationships to pass transformative legislation that has significantly empowered families in Louisiana and across the country. His leadership has brought about meaningful change and progress. Notably, President Biden made history with the nomination of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson as the first African American woman to the Supreme Court of the United States, further cementing his legacy as a champion of equality and justice.
