Details of the ABCT Summer Camp is as follows:

• It will help children 7 – 17 expand their cultural boundaries and outlook.

• ABCT Summer Camp is a full-day theater experience; breakfast and lunch are on-site. Your child will enjoy six weeks of special art activities and high-quality, firsthand workshops, including:

• Theater – playwriting, performance, production, costuming, lighting, and set building.

• On Friday of each week, we stage a talent show/performance where your child will display their creativity and imagination.

Bean states the ABCT Summer Camps’ primary objectives are to instruct each child is Teamwork, Civic Service, Cultural values, and the importance of culture. “These values are what I wish to impart in the kids of ABCT. I realize that theater is just a platform I use to empower young people to soar in whatever they choose to pursue in life.”

The History and Impact of ABCT
The Anthony Bean Community Theater and Acting School (ABCT) was established in Spring 2000 to meet the growing demands of New Orleans area residents seeking a quality, culturally diverse performing arts venue. The theater also met the needs of individuals seeking to learn the art of acting, set design, and theatre management. Named after its Founder and Artistic Director, Anthony Bean, ABCT combines a theater company and acting school to accomplish its mission to provide young people of all ages the opportunity to study their craft while actively participating in a Performing Arts Summer Program that will earn them skills for life. The Anthony Bean Community Theater and Acting School have served New Orleans youth and its surrounding area for over twenty years. It is and always has been the goal of ABCT to reach out and touch the lives of as many young people as possible.

Giving Young People A Voice
During the camp they will learn stage presence, stage technique, and stage terminology. They will also be taught voice-over (projecting the voice) and a long list of theater and film lessons, all taught by a staff with more than 50 years of experience between them.

At the end of the program, the students will have a strong knowledge of the art of live performing on and off the stage. It will give our young people a voice and a forum where they can express in their way (HIP-HOP THEATER) how they feel about the state, the city, the arts, and their community. The program also enables our young people to contribute to bringing quality productions to our community while exposing our young people to the arts firsthand.

In addition to training for the stage, this summer, the Anthony Bean Performing Arts Summer Camp will film a TV Show called ‘WHAT’S GOING ON.’ It is an innovative, fun, uplifting, and engaging TV Talk Show that gives the youth a voice on topics that impact us all. The hosts and audience members will be the summer camp teens. The TV Show will air in the fall on WUPL MY-54.

“The Goal of the camp is to help them discover their voice. Also provide an intense, high-quality learning and performing opportunity in an atmosphere where young people are encouraged to set goals, take risks, and view mistakes as an avenue for learning. The Summer Arts Program opens students up to greatness and creates an awareness that the arts are a constructive vehicle of personal expression.”
