As the 30th Essence Festival makes its presence in the Crescent City to celebrate the largest African American culture and music event in the U.S., one of the big questions asked – right after who will be performing – is what to wear to the many events taking place in and around the city.
Finding the perfect outfit that is “haute”, yet cool enough to keep you looking fresh is the goal for attending the daytime experiences at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. It’s no secret New Orleans heat is relentless and there’s no escaping it. Stick with light colors (white’s my fav), flowing silhouettes and natural textiles that are breathable, such as cotton and linen. Don’t forget comfy shoes, sunglasses, and sunblock; these are important necessities when walking these streets of New Orleans to the various daytime events.
As the sunsets and the night lights illuminates the city, it’s time make a wardrobe change and get ready to get turnt up! However, don’t expect too much of a cool down in the temperature. In fact, the humid and sticky weather continues into the evening as everyone makes their way to the Caesar Superdome for the concerts. That doesn’t mean you should sacrifice style. The theme for evening events is to shimmer and shine, from micro-mini to strapless and flowing or silky romper. After all, alongside the music, food, and culture, style and fashion are the essence of Essence Fest.
