Celebrating 60 years in the music business, while supporting himself only with his music and never taking a ‘day job’, Deacon John Moore performed for two sets at Tipitina’s, running about an hour and a half each this past Saturday night. In a radio interview on WWOZ John said the secret to his longevity and success in the business was by being versatile and learning many different genres of music. He demonstrated this Saturday night by playing everything from The Beatles to Frank Sinatra tunes, along with an eclectic mix of funk, jazz and R&B.
