Data News Weekly Staff Edited Report
People across the nation are now holding Early Voting for the November 3, 2020 election. Due to COVID-19, more people will be voting by mail or early voting.
Data News Weekly in our role as “The People’s Paper” is providing the most current information on how to vote in this election.
Early Voting:
Early voting allows voters to both cast a ballot without having to rely on the Postal Service and avoid potentially long lines at their voting location on election day.
Early voting is also an attractive option for those concerned about mail delays and the safety of voting in-person.

Absentee Voting/ Voting by Mail
Absentee ballots should be requested as far in advance of the election as possible. When your mail ballot arrives, read it carefully and follow the instructions to complete and return it. Please be aware of standard mail delivery times and the return ballot deadline when applying for a mail ballot to ensure your voted ballot is received by the registrar of voters before the deadline. Completed absentee ballots may also be hand delivered to the City Hall or Algiers Courthouse. Hand delivery certification form must be completed if returning a ballot for someone other than yourself.
The deadline to request an absentee by mail ballot is Oct. 30 by 4:30 p.m.
The deadline for the registrar of voters to receive a voted mail ballot is Nov. 2 by 4:30 p.m.
For the Nov 3 election: In Louisiana, you must have a reason to be eligible to vote by mail, unless you are a military or overseas voter. You can submit an application requesting a mail-in ballot through the online system or you may print and mail an application directly to your registrar of voters.
