A New Orleans Tradition Continues
The Spirit of Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong will once again take center stage as the 26th Annual Satchmo SummerFest returns to the New Orleans Jazz Museum on Saturday, August 1, and Sunday, August 2, 2026. The free, two-day festival, held at the museum located at 400 Esplanade Avenue, celebrates one of New Orleans’Ggreatest Cultural Ambassadors through music, education, food, and community.
For more than a quarter century, Satchmo SummerFest has honored Armstrong’s extraordinary contributions to jazz while showcasing the city’s rich musical traditions. The festival attracts residents and visitors alike, offering an authentic New Orleans experience that blends history with contemporary performances.
A Stellar Musical Lineup
Live music will fill the festival grounds each day from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. across the Delta Utilities Stage and the Friends of Fest Stage. This year’s lineup features some of the city’s most celebrated performers, highlighting the diversity and evolution of New Orleans music.
Among the featured performances is Kermit Ruffins’ highly anticipated tribute to Louis Armstrong, a performance expected to capture the joy, charisma, and musical brilliance that defined Armstrong’s career. Also appearing are acclaimed Vocalist John Boutté, Hasizzle with the TBC Brass Band, whose energetic blend of bounce music and traditional brass band sounds represents the next generation of New Orleans music, Don Vappie & Jazz Creole, Preservation Brass, and the Trailblazing Original Pinettes Brass Band.
Together, the lineup reflects both the city’s deep jazz roots and the innovative artists carrying its musical traditions into the future.
Celebrating History Beyond the Music
Satchmo SummerFest offers much more than live entertainment. The festival has long been recognized for its educational programming, giving attendees an opportunity to deepen their understanding of Armstrong’s Life and Influence.
One of the featured presentations will be led by internationally recognized Armstrong Historian Ricky Riccardi, who will explore the 100th Anniversary of Louis Armstrong’s groundbreaking Hot Five Recording Sessions. Those recordings helped transform jazz into an international art form and remain among the most influential works in American Music History.
The festival also continues cherished traditions with the Annual Jazz Mass, typically held Sunday morning at St. Augustine Catholic Church, honoring Armstrong’s lifelong connection to faith and his hometown. A lively Second-Line Parade through the French Quarter will once again celebrate the city’s unmistakable culture and festive spirit.
A Festival for Everyone
Designed as a family-friendly community celebration, the festival offers tented outdoor performance areas along with indoor, air-conditioned spaces inside the New Orleans Jazz Museum, providing visitors with a comfortable escape from the August heat. Admission to both the museum and all festival activities is free, making the event accessible to music lovers of all ages.
