Free Community Event Aims to Improve Health Outcomes Across Louisiana
The Urban League of Louisiana, in partnership with presenting sponsor Ochsner Health, is inviting families from across the region to attend the Fifth Annual Big Health Event, a free community celebration dedicated to promoting health, wellness, education, and opportunity.
The one-day event will take place on Saturday, August 15, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, Hall J, located at 900 Convention Center Boulevard in New Orleans. Organizers say the event is designed to connect residents with valuable health resources while encouraging healthy lifestyles and strengthening community engagement.
The Big Health Event comes at an important time for Louisiana, a state that has consistently ranked near the bottom in National Health Indicators. Through their continued partnership, the Urban League of Louisiana and Ochsner Health are working to improve access to healthcare services, increase awareness of preventive care, and help residents make informed decisions about their overall well-being.
“This event represents our shared commitment to building a healthier Louisiana,” organizers said. “By bringing together healthcare providers, educators, businesses, and community organizations under one roof, we can connect families with the resources they need to thrive.”
Attendees will have access to a variety of free health screenings conducted by healthcare professionals, along with educational panels featuring medical experts discussing important health topics affecting communities throughout the state. The event will also feature a Fitness and Movement Zone where certified personal trainers will lead interactive activities promoting physical fitness.
Families can enjoy Sports and STEM activities, health and wellness information booths, and a Youth and Family Zone offering engaging activities for children. Those seeking employment or career advancement can explore workforce development opportunities, while aspiring entrepreneurs can connect with small business resources and support services.
As students prepare for the new school year, organizers will also host back-to-school giveaways to help families with essential supplies.
Free parking will be available in Lots F and G at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, making it convenient for attendees to participate.
Organizers encourage residents of all ages to register and attend the free event, emphasizing that the Big Health Event is more than a Health Fair—it is a community investment focused on improving the quality of life for families throughout Louisiana through education, prevention, and access to essential resources.
