Councilman Oliver Thomas – in conjunction with NOLA Public Schools, Agenda for Children, Children’s Hospital, and New Orleans East Hospital – is sponsoring a Back-to-School Boogaloo for the children and families of New Orleans. The event will be held on Saturday, July 22 from 10 am to 2 pm at Joe. W. Brown Park Recreation Center at 5601 Read Blvd. in New Orleans East.

When asked what motivated him to spearhead this event, Councilman Thomas stated that “The parents of New Orleans work hard to provide for their children. We should all expect the best from our kids. With the start of the new school year approaching, I wanted to assist in this effort. I know firsthand what it’s like to not always have the necessities. The least that we can do is provide them with the tools to succeed and do their very best. Special thanks to all of our co-sponsors who helped make this event possible.”

Participants will be able to enjoy the following amenities:

    • • Health services and resources for kids ages 6 months – 18 years
    • • Free enrollment with Children’s Hospital’s ThriveKids Student Wellness Program for any at-school health needs that arise during the school year.
    • • Free immunization for qualifying families through the Greater New Orleans Immunization Network
    • • Take advantage of sports physicals, plus primary care & dental resources
      • Free haircuts, school supplies, and more (while supplies last)

Get back-to-school ready with a Health, Wellness, and Resource Fair for New Orleans kids and families! For more information, please contact Lena Stewart at (504) 658-1050.
