Gary Carter Jr. Wins State Senate District 7 Race

Gary Carter Jr. easily was victorious getting 60% of the vote in the race for Louisiana State Senate District 7.

In the race to replace Troy Carter in Louisiana Senate District 7; an area that covers Orleans, Jefferson and northern Plaquemines parishes a new state senator was elected on Saturday June 12, 2021.

Gary Carter Jr. easily was victorious getting 60% of the vote, according to the Louisiana Secretary of State’s website.

The seat was formerly held by Congressman Troy Carter, who is the uncle of Gary Carter, Jr.

Carter Jr., a Democrat from Algiers, faced St. Rep. Mack Cormier (D) Belle Chasse, Joanna Cappiello-Leopold (D) and Patricia McCarty (R).

Gary Carter Jr. is currently the State Representative of District 102, which encompasses all of Algiers.

There will be an upcoming race to determine who will succeed him to serve the rest of his term.
