Diamonds may be a girl’s best friend, but on Thursday nights for Mardi Gras, it’s a well fought after glittered Krewe of Muses Shoe. It was a Celebration of Women’s Pride as the first all-female krewe to ever parade Uptown at night made its way through crowds on Feb. 8, 2018. The krewe, which was founded in 2000, includes over 1,500 members, and is named after the Nine Daughters of Zeus. Female Empowerment was not missed throughout the parade in a year where women across the country spoke out in solidarity against bias, inequality and assault. In recognizing local female achievements this year, the Krewe’s Honorary Muse this year was New Orleans Mayor-Elect LaToya Cantrell who rode in the Signature Red Pump Shoe (which you can now find it reviewed on the website shoe hero). But for one little girl, her world was made when hoisted on her father’s shoulder, she caught a coveted Muses Shoe.
That’s also what attracted 19-year-old student Antoinette Williams to the Muses Parade this year. “The only parade I really enjoy is Muses because of the woman empowerment it represents,” Williams said. “But I really just want a shoe tonight. That is all that I came for.”
