Veteran Attorney Wins Orleans Parish Criminal District Court Race
Voters in New Orleans have elected Attorney John Fuller as Judge for Section J of the Orleans Parish Criminal District Court following a highly watched and competitive campaign that drew attention from across the city’s legal and political communities.
Fuller, a longtime Criminal Defense Attorney with more than two decades of courtroom experience, secured the victory after campaigning on themes of fairness, accountability, and equal justice.
Supporters praised Fuller’s extensive legal background and deep familiarity with the Orleans Parish Court System, where he has handled thousands of criminal cases throughout his career. During the campaign, Fuller emphasized the importance of balancing public safety with rehabilitation and dignity for individuals moving through the Justice System.
Campaign Focused on Justice and Community Trust
The Section J Race generated significant public interest, particularly because of the Critical Role Criminal Court Judges Play in decisions involving sentencing, bonds, trials, and diversion opportunities. Fuller frequently spoke about restoring confidence in the Justice System while ensuring fairness for all residents regardless of income or background.
Political Observers noted that community outreach and strong voter engagement in several neighborhoods across the city contributed to Fuller’s success. His message centered on experience, transparency, and compassionate justice resonated with many voters seeking steady leadership on the bench.
The campaign also drew attention earlier this year after legal challenges briefly threatened Fuller’s Candidacy before the Louisiana Supreme Court ultimately reinstated him to the ballot.
Supporters Celebrate Victory
Following the election results, supporters gathered to celebrate what many called an important victory for experienced leadership within Orleans Parish Criminal District Court.
In remarks after the race, Fuller thanked voters, volunteers, and Community Leaders who supported his candidacy. He pledged to serve Section J with integrity, impartiality, and respect for the law.
“As judge, I will work every day to ensure fairness and justice for every person who enters my courtroom,” Fuller said.
As he prepares to take the bench in Section J, many residents and legal professionals say they hope Fuller’s leadership will help strengthen trust in the Criminal Justice System while promoting a balanced approach to accountability and rehabilitation.
